Omni Hotels & Resorts has issued a notice to patrons informing them of a malware intrusion at point-of-sale systems in some of its properties. The breach, reportedly between Dec. 23, 2015 and June 14, 2016, is unlikely to have impacted customers who did not physically present their card.
Hotel management says the intrusion, discovered in May, has been contained and the system made more secure, but affected customers may need to monitor their accounts. The hotel has no indication of who could be a victim but has arranged for one-year free identity theft protection and repair to possibly impacted guests.
The malware, says Omni, was designed to steal payment card information and not likely to have obtained other customer details like Social Security numbers or PINs.
