TACOMA, Wash. – Nov. 24, 2015 – IID, the source for clear cyberthreat intelligence, today announced it has appointed Sean Tierney as its Vice President of Threat Intelligence. For the past two-plus years, Tierney headed up Morgan Stanley’s cyber defense efforts worldwide as its Executive Director of Computer Emergency Response and Cyber Intelligence.
“IID is one of those unique companies that is making the Internet safer for business through a combination of human intelligence and automated machine-learning,” said Tierney. “While IID has been combatting Internet threats since the mid-1990s, by pioneering this new approach to fighting cybercrime it is once again on the cutting edge. It’s an exciting time to join IID to fight the good fight and I can’t wait to dig in.”
In his new role, Tierney will lead IID’s threat intelligence (TI) team which collaborates with Fortune 500 companies and government agencies to identify emerging cybersecurity threats. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Tierney served in cybersecurity executive and leadership roles at UBS AG, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Intel Corporation.
“Sean has played a vital role in securing some of the world’s largest financial institutions. He also brings a consistent record of collaboration and leadership within the threat intelligence community, especially with government and critical infrastructure industries,” said IID CEO Lars Harvey. “His vast knowledge and industry relationships will be invaluable for leading our efforts to investigate, assess and analyze threat information. We’re overjoyed to have him join the leadership team.”
IID’s TI team transforms shared data from IID’s big data solution for Internet security, ActiveTrust, to add structure and context. The result is valuable defensive intelligence and actionable direction for ActiveTrust clients to take against cyberthreats. ActiveTrust is one of the world’s largest commercial cyberthreat data exchanges.
