Onapsis Awarded Key Patent for Automated Cyber-Security Assessment of SAP Systems and Business-Critical Applications

Enterprises gain assurance of rigorous methods to protect business-critical applications, processes and data from cyber-attacks

Boston, MA - April 15, 2015 - Onapsis, the global experts in business-critical application security and SAP cybersecurity solutions, announced today the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 9,009,837 entitled “Automated Security Assessment of Business-Critical Systems and Applications.” The patented innovation, developed by Onapsis CEO and co-Founder Mariano Nunez in 2010, describes certain algorithms and capabilities behind the technology powering the Onapsis Security Platform™ and Onapsis X1™ software platforms.

In particular, the patent covers a new application security assessment framework that allows auditing and testing systems to automatically perform security and compliance audits, detect technical security vulnerabilities, and illustrate the associated security risks affecting business-critical applications. By automating the cybersecurity assessments of business-critical applications such as SAP, the technology represents the first of its kind and gives CISOs the assurance that they are employing unparalleled threat detection and protection methods not provided by traditional security solutions.

In 2014 alone over 391 security alerts affecting SAP were issued, with 46 percent of them ranked “high priority.” These alerts included critical SAP-specific vulnerabilities, as well as well-known issues such as Heartbleed, Shellshock, Poodle and malware such as Zombie Zero. The Onapsis Research Labs has been instrumental in helping SAP AG identify and fix several critical vulnerabilities. This unique threat intelligence is provided to customers using the technology and methods invented and described in the patent, including: reconnaissance of the SAP landscapes through a variety of techniques; SAP-specific vulnerability scanning modules and techniques; technical checks over SAP systems; logical mapping of dependencies and interfaces between SAP systems; and performing technical security checks on target systems.
