Dark Reading Radio: Trends In Application Security
How can we get more security baked into applications? Join us for a discussion Wednesday, September 24,
The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) has been tracking trends in application security for over a decade. In 2003, when the foundation released its first Top 10 list of app sec risks, the list was based on members’ experiences. Today, the data is culled from more than a half-million vulnerabilities, across hundreds of organizations and thousands of applications.
In our next episode of Dark Reading Radio, on Wednesday, September 24, we’ll take a look at some of the latest trends in application security and the hot topics that created the most buzz at AppSecUSA, the foundation’s annual conference attended by an assortment of developers, security auditors, risk managers, security execs, and government and law enforcement officials, held last week in Denver.
Our guests are two industry leaders well-versed in the issues of how to get more security baked into applications: Michael Coates, OWASP Chairman and Product Security Director at Shape Security; and former OWASP Chairman Jeff Williams, creator of the OWASP Top Ten, and currently CTO at Aspect Security and Contrast Security.
Among the issues we'll be discussing:
The current state of app sec based on research involving 11,000 developers over four years on practices related to open-source and application security. Plus new survey results about what software developers don’t know about critical security issues such as how to protect sensitive data, web services, and threat modeling.
Key changes in app sec within the past decade and the critical challenges going forward.
How to make application development a business priority for security-conscious organizations.
Why the retail industry needs to pay closer attention to application security and what developers need to be aware of to make it harder for hackers to get inside point-of-sale systems.
I hope you'll join our show and bring your insights and opinions to the conversation. You can post your comments and questions below or bring them to the Dark Reading radio studio on Wednesday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT), where you can participate directly through online chat. Please note, you’ll need to register for the broadcast to participate. I look forward to seeing you there.
