Ad Networks Just Got More Secure
New ad network puts users first, combines beautiful user experience with best in class privacy controls

PRESS RELEASE
Tettnang, Germany --- January 26, 2015 – IT security expert Avira today announced it has created a secure advertising network. With increasing numbers of malware attacks on users through advertising networks in recent months, including some of the world’s biggest sites such as Yahoo Sports, Dictionary.com and Answers.com, as well as certain mobile ad networks being shown to be increasingly aggressive when it comes to harvesting user data, Avira has taken up the mantle of leadership to protect users from compromised ad networks.
Partnering with AOL Adtech, one of the world’s largest ad serving companies (serving 250 billion impressions a month), Avira’s network, built by its Silicon Valley R&D team, allows advertisers to promote their content, and developers to monetize their apps in ways that respect user privacy and ensure the highest standards when it comes to user data transfer and security. The first fruit of the partnership can be found powering Avira’s recommended apps section in its flagship iOS security application released today.
"2014 was the year we really saw the landscape change with regard to adware on mobile," said Leon Crutchley, Director, Avira R&D. "Both on Android and iOS we have seen ad networks become increasingly aggressive with the way they collect data. We wanted to put the power back into the hands of the users to control how their data is used.”
Avira has created an ad network that allows users control over every piece of data that is collected about them. Inside Avira’s iOS app, users can control on a granular level each piece of data the ad network collects and uses to target ads. Today the network is available for any advertisers that want to promote their iOS apps. Additional information is available at http://www.avira.com/avira-ad-network. An SDK will be available later this year for developers to integrate and monetize their own apps.
Chris Knight, Creative Director, Avira R&D said, “In a world of ever evolving cyber security threats, one of the strongest weapons we have in the security industry is great product design. We have worked hard to bring security software at Avira from a ‘must have’ to a ‘want to have’, which has been our guiding principle for the ad network. Our partnership with AOL is helping us bring this vision to a whole new global audience in an industry where cybercrime is growing faster than ever before.”
