ATLANTA, January 7, 2013 – Lancope, Inc., a leader in flow-based security and network performance monitoring, has appointed security industry expert Amrit Williams as chief technology officer (CTO). Williams brings to his new role more than 18 years of experience in information technology and security, including leadership positions with IBM, Gartner and McAfee. Throughout his career, he has conceived, developed and delivered to market dozens of enterprise security products. His in-depth expertise and clout in the security market will further solidify Lancope's leadership position in flow-based security monitoring, as well as ensure continued innovation and customer satisfaction across its StealthWatch®product line.

Having been referred to by the Financial Times as "one of cyber security's most astute observers," Williams understands the necessity of next-generation security solutions like StealthWatch for protecting today's networks from advanced attacks. "As a long-time security professional, I am excited to join Lancope and evangelize its unique and cost-effective approach to network protection," said Williams. "Today's governments and enterprises are struggling to defend their networks from sophisticated malware, insider threats and targeted attacks. I look forward to working with Lancope's product and engineering teams to further establish the StealthWatch System as the solution that can fill in the gaps left by conventional security tools to more effectively combat evolving threats."

Earlier in his career, Williams served as CTO for BigFix, Inc., where he helped establish the company as a market leader in systems and security management, and more than triple the amount of applications in its product portfolio. His efforts contributed to a successful acquisition by IBM in 2010. At IBM, Williams served as the director of emerging security technologies and CTO for endpoint security, helping to define the overall security strategy with emphasis on analytics, cloud computing, mobile and social media.

Prior to joining BigFix, Williams was an analyst with Gartner Research covering information security. Previously, he served as director of engineering services at McAfee and security company nCircle. Most recently, he founded WAF Enterprises, providing strategic consulting services in technology areas including mobile application security, data center automation and Big Data analytics.

"Amrit's immediate understanding of our market space and extensive experience in enterprise security serve as big wins for our company, partners and customers," said Mike Potts, president and CEO of Lancope. "Through his various roles in the security industry, he has become an accomplished technology executive with a reputation for consistently delivering award-winning enterprise software products. His strategic vision and technical leadership skills are sure to elevate our influence in the market and even further strengthen our innovative StealthWatch product line."

Lancope's StealthWatch System leverages NetFlow, IPFIX and other types of flow data to provide in-depth, internal network visibility and security context for defending against today's top threats. Advanced features including virtual, identity, application and mobile awareness help enterprises maintain high levels of security while embracing evolving trends such as cloud computing and BYOD.

Williams holds CISSP and CISM certifications, and has served as a technical advisor and board member for a multitude of security and technology companies. He has been quoted extensively in the media and has also obtained several technology patents.
