PRESS RELEASE

Rolling Meadows, IL, USA (28 May 2015)—Career opportunities in information security continue to grow, but there is a significant shortage of women in the field. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that just 25 percent of the US IT workforce is female. And, a recent Harvey Nash CIO Survey found that 71 percent of global respondents believe that women are under-represented in the IT department. To engage and empower women to aspire to leadership roles within security, global association ISACA is offering a free webinar in June and a special track for women at its inaugural CSX 2015 conference in October.

ISACA’s free “Conscious Leadership” webinar on 4 June 2015, at 11 a.m. CDT (UTC-5), will focus on women in leadership roles. Presenter Linda Dolceamore of the Executive Women’s Forum (EWF) Leadership Journey is an accomplished executive coach and leadership development consultant who has worked with leaders in global Fortune 50 companies. Attendees will learn how to strengthen self-awareness, personal capacity and resilience necessary to flourish in critical roles.

At its inaugural CSX 2015 in Washington DC, USA, 19-21 October 2015, ISACA will offer a first-ever Women in Security track to help advance the role of women in cybersecurity.

Women in Security will include impactful discussions and guidance on navigating the unique needs, opportunities and challenges faced by women in the field. Networking events and educational sessions specifically designed around impacting the gender gap will offer innovative tools to help women excel in the security field. Sessions include:

  • Keynote Tyler Cohen Wood, author, cyber expert, senior officer and cyber branch chief at the Department of Defense, who will share personal experiences on building her career and how she overcame challenges and obstacles.

  • Keynotes Alexa Clay and Kyra Maya Phillips, authors of The Misfit Economy, who will share the communication, leadership and self-confidence skills they needed to collaborate and establish trust in a challenging environment.

  • Personal branding expert William Arruda, who will lead a workshop for women on developing a strategy to build a personal brand.

  • Aspire to Lead breakfast session with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to help women advance their careers and provide them with tools to build leadership skills. PwC is a gold sponsor of the event, demonstrating its support for women in security.

“It is exciting to see more women interested in the information security field. To support their efforts, it is important to provide educational opportunities that address their specific challenges and needs,” said Cohen Wood. “I look forward to meeting like-minded professionals at CSX 2015 and contributing to the unique conference track that will benefit women in security.”

CSX 2015 is also the stage of the Global CyberLympics World Finals, an international online cybersecurity competition run by EC Council Foundation. This year, all-women teams will be among the participants demonstrating their skills in security during the competition. Registration for the event continues until 31 July at www.cyberlympics.org.

CSX 2015 is the latest offering from ISACA’s Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX), which provides resources to help cybersecurity professionals at every level of their careers build the skills and knowledge that organizations are seeking. Registration information for CSX 2015 is at www.isaca.org/cyber-con. Attendees can earn up to 32 CPE hours.
