Spammers To Idaho: You're The Tops!

Spam targeting is one of those categories you don't want to be Number One in, but somebody has to be. According to a new report from MessageLabs, the top spam targets in the U.S. live in Idaho. But the rest of the states aren't that much better off.According to the MessageLabs list, Idaho residents' mail queues are clogged and clotted with spam: 93.8% of their mail is spam.

Before that makes you glad your mail queue resides somewhere else, bear in mind that the while global average spam/legitmail ratio is down a bit, the spam percentage ast month was still 88.5%.

Last year Idaho ranked 44th -- but somehow this sort of growth (attributed to more aggressive botnets moving across more broadband connections, as well as the slow economy) doesn't seem to be the sort of thing any state is looking for, even in tough times.

Things may be bad, spamwise, in Idaho, but they ain't all that great anywhere else.

Even Puerto Rico, which ranked lowest on MessageLabs' rankings, enjoys (if that's the word) more than 83% spam.

More than 8 out of 10 e-mails are now spam in the low spam zones!

According to MessageLabs:

The Top Ten Spam Receiving States

Idaho

Kentucky

New Jersey

Alabama

Illinois

Indiana

Massachusetts

Pennsylvania

Arizona

Maryland

And the bottom nine states and one territory:

Puerto Rico

Montana

Alaska

Kansas

South Dakota

Tennessee

Vermont

Rhode Island

Wisconsin

Florida
