SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced that in an independent test conducted by AV Test Labs (www.av-test.org), Secure Computing’s Webwasher® anti-malware engine achieved 99.86% detection success, surpassing all of the leading vendors and scoring higher than 27 other companies. Secure Computing’s reputation-based Web gateway solution, Webwasher, correctly identified the majority of 874,822 threat samples used in the study. The research conducted mirrored the true magnitude of malware threats and illustrated the varying degrees of competitive product effectiveness in detecting these threats.

For this test, AV Test Labs only used current samples that were seen spreading (or which were distributed by malware authors) within the last six months. A total of 874,822 unique malware samples were used for this test, including worms, backdoors, bots (zombies) and Trojan Horses.

These lab results demonstrate the superior ability of Webwasher to effectively secure users in a rapidly evolving and increasingly hazardous threat landscape. Webwasher combines a traditional signature-based anti-malware engine with the effectiveness of Secure Computing’s proactive security filters as well as its industry-leading reputation system, TrustedSource™, to detect blended or yet unknown malware. The solution has achieved two other top ratings from AV Test Labs this year.

“Malicious attacks, which once were Internet wide, are now more often sophisticated targeted assaults on enterprises with monetary gain as the goal. Proactive protection based on behavioral analysis is required to protect today’s enterprises,” stated Andreas Marx, managing director for AV Test Labs.

“AV-Test Labs in Germany is one of the most discerning and credible in the security community, and to receive a score of 99.86 percent validates our pioneering, multi-layered, reputation-based approach,” said Atri Chatterjee, senior vice president of marketing, Secure Computing. “Considering the vast amount of threat samples seen in the past six months and used in this study, customers need solutions that provide proactive and real-time protection that is effective and accurate.”
