Sophos Buys Rook Security to Build DarkBytes Platform

The acquisition fits into Sophos' plan to offer resellable managed detection and response services.

Sophos has confirmed its acquisition of Rook Security, an Indianapolis-based firm that provides managed detection and response (MDR) services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Rook Security, founded in 2008, employs a team of threat hunters and incident response experts who hunt for, analyze, and address security incidents for business customers. Sophos wants to integrate its detection, investigation, and response capabilities into DarkBytes, an endpoint security platform and security operations center service it acquired earlier this year.

Sophos' idea is to create resellable MDR services for its network of 47,000 channel partners, and it's using Rook Security and DarkBytes tech to build out its vision. In a statement, CTO Joe Levy explained how the growing variety of hackers' techniques is putting pressure on businesses.

"As a result, businesses need 24/7 monitoring and management of what is happening on their network, yet many of them do not have the expertise, can't keep up or don't have the security teams in-house to optimally configure and manage security around-the-clock," Levy said.

As part of the deal, Sophos will align its product portfolio with Rook Security's threat detection services, meaning its 24/7 analysts can review client security postures across Sophos' offerings.

This is a good purchase
This is good for the Sophos Intercept X platform where they can search for variants in the wild and put "Intercept-X" to the test. X for short uses ML platform to address the issues in the wild.



The platform is pretty nice, they are making headway in the area of malicious attacks. Interesting to see what happens and if they can improve their platform.
