Symantec Completes Integration of VeriSign Authentication Services Into Symantec Protection Center

Symantec Protection Center's central management console provides access to local data and global threat intelligence

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 20, 2011 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that it has successfully integrated three key VeriSign Authentication Services into Symantec Protection Center (SPC) within five months of the acquisition of VeriSign’s identity and authentication business. With these integrations, customers will be able to manage their VeriSign' Managed PKI, VeriSign' Managed PKI for SSL, and VeriSign' Identity Protection (VIP) Authentication Service deployments from a centralized management console.

This integration continues Symantec’s focus on improving the security posture and providing visibility for organizations with complex IT environments. Symantec Protection Center’s central management console provides access to local data and global threat intelligence, allowing organizations to stay ahead of security threats while maximizing their existing IT investments.

“Enterprises need a cohesive view into the state of their security to defend themselves against increasingly sophisticated attacks,” said Francis deSouza, senior vice president of the Enterprise Security Group at Symantec. “Integrating market-leading authentication solutions acquired from VeriSign in August with the Symantec Protection Center will provide our customers with a complete view into their state of security, allowing them to identify their highest areas of risk and shorten the window of exposure.”

“Increasingly corporate and consumer customers want assurances that information, transactions, and interactions are from legitimate sources. Certificates can provide that higher level of assurance and trust for both the sender and receiver. The problem, however, has been managing the certificates' issuance, revocation, and cross-certification for clients and servers. With the rapid integration of VeriSign Authentication Services into the Symantec Protection Center, administration becomes easier and more seamless,” said Christian A. Christiansen, vice president of IDC's Security Products & Services group.

VeriSign Authentication Services provide organizations with strong proof that a user, device, or website is genuine and that information is protected. These services, now integrated into the Symantec Protection Center, provide:

* Managed PKI for SSL: VeriSign Managed PKI for SSL reduces the cost and complexity of managing digital certificates by providing both centralized control and delegated administration required for managing large numbers of digital certificates and issuance by multiple administrators across different organizations or business units.

* Managed PKI: VeriSign Managed PKI Service is a PKI certificate management and authentication service that runs on VeriSign’s proven, globally managed, highly reliable infrastructure. Quick to deploy and easily integrated into your existing network infrastructure, VeriSign Managed PKI Service is available for heterogeneous operating systems and platforms or for tight integration into Windows' and Active Directory'.

* VIP: VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Authentication Service is the leading cloud-based authentication service that enables enterprises to secure online access and transactions in order to obtain compliance and reduce fraud risk. VIP provides an additional layer of protection beyond standard username and password by requiring a dynamic one-time use six-digit security code generated by a user's VIP credential.
