PRESS RELEASE

Cupertino, CA- November 17, 2008 - Trend Micro, Inc. (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet content security, has expanded its email encryption product line with the launch of Trend Micro(tm) Email Encryption Gateway 5.0. This most recent addition helps medium and large businesses encrypt email communication on the Internet gateway.

Conventional email encryption technologies are typically complicated, cumbersome and time-consuming. Traditionally, they require pre-registration and subsequent distribution of certificates before encrypted emails can be exchanged. Trend Micro Email Encryption uses Identity-based Encryption (IBE) in conjunction with in-the-cloud encryption key management to avoid the legacy burdens of pre-registration, key management and the administration that plagued PKI technology.

Internet email lacks security and is vulnerable to compromise at various points as it travels from sender to receiver. Tarnished corporate reputation and lost intellectual property are just some of the consequences businesses must face when email communication is compromised. In addition, businesses also need email encryption for compliance with government and industry mandates such as PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), UK Data Protection Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), US HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

"Email is a primary form of communication, and secure email is essential for establishing and maintaining compliance, privacy and data integrity. Compromised emails can have catastrophic consequences," said Charles Kolodgy, research director for Security Products at IDC. "For secure email to be practical, it must be simple to administer and not alter the user experience. Trend Micro achieves these goals with Identity-based Encryption and, with the addition of a gateway element, Trend Micro expands their reach and appeal in the market."

Trend Micro Email Encryption Gateway integrates with Trend Micro gateway messaging security solutions such as Trend Micro InterScan(tm) Messaging Security Suite 7.0 or InterScan(tm) Messaging Security Virtual Appliance 7.0 to provide a comprehensive content security and encryption solution. It also interoperates with solutions from other gateway email security vendors by providing comprehensive email encryption and decryption services at the Internet gateway.

Based on the technology acquired with the purchase of Identum in January 2008, Trend Micro's email encryption solution portfolio can now provide email encryption services at a variety of locations including: * Trend Micro(tm) Email Encryption Gateway 5.0 for gateway email encryption * Trend Micro(tm) Email Encryption Client 5.0 for desktop-to-desktop email encryption * Email Encryption for InterScan(tm) Hosted Messaging Security for hosted email encryption

"Email is mission-critical for today's businesses, and secure email keeps businesses humming. Enterprises require email that enables compliance with relevant regulations with a minimum of administrative overhead," said Punit Minocha, vice-president of the Data Protection Emerging Business Unit at Trend Micro. "We are delighted to offer a complete, easy-to-use email encryption solution - on the desktop, at the gateway, or as a host offering. The expansion of our portfolio to include gateway email encryption helps give customers greater flexibility and increased ability to meet their compliance obligations."

Trend Micro Email Encryption Gateway 5.0 runs on VMWare's ESX 3.x and ESXi 3.x environments. Encrypted email can be decrypted using the Trend Micro Email Encryption Client, or recipients can use an optional browser-based reader to view encrypted email without installing software.

Pricing and Availability for North America Trend Micro Email Encryption Gateway 5.0 starts at $US60 per year per user with standard volume discounts applying. Trend Micro Email Encryption Gateway is scheduled to be available on December 1, 2008.
