A trio of customers discuss how they're using Symantec data protection solutions to secure and manage their VMware environments

(Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that businesses around the world, including Megatone Carsa S.A., City of Winter Park and Golden Temple, are seeing tangible results using Symantec data protection solutions to secure and manage their VMware environments. These organizations rely on Symantec NetBackup and Backup Exec to protect their data and systems in both physical and virtual environments through a single solution, helping them reduce server, network and storage requirements and improve recovery time and reliability. Through tight integration with VMware, NetBackup and Backup Exec deliver market leading support for virtual environments and the most efficient virtual machine backups possible.

Megatone Carsa S.A. Megatone Carsa S.A., a leading consumer electronics retail chain operating in Argentina, is using NetBackup for VMware to ensure reliable backup and recovery for its new virtual server environment. With NetBackup, the company is backing up its data three times faster and has a recovery success rate of 100 percent.

"NetBackup for VMware provides excellent integration with VMware Consolidated Backup and it's very easy to manage and configure," said Pablo Soto, IT administrator, Megatone Carsa S.A. "NetBackup is extremely fast, has a surprisingly low impact on our network performance and allows us to restore an entire virtual machine or a single file or folder through its Granular Recovery Technology."

City of Winter Park Located in Florida, the City of Winter Park virtualized 32 of its 55 servers, resulting in reduced costs and server space. By deploying NetBackup for their VMware environment, the City of Winter Park has a single solution that can provide data protection for both physical and virtual environments, reducing cost and complexity. The city has a backup success rate of 100 percent and its IT staff spends less than 2 hours per week on backup administration. "We wanted a new solution that allowed us to streamline our backup and recovery processes for virtual machines and determined that NetBackup provided the easiest and most capable protection of VMware," said Parsram Rajaram, IT Manager, City of Winter Park. "With NetBackup, we are able to quickly restore a virtual machine, allowing us to focus on our other day to day responsibilities."

Golden Temple of Oregon, LLC Golden Temple of Oregon is a manufacturer of natural foods with more than 300 employees worldwide. The company recently upgraded its Symantec Backup Exec solution to version 12.5 to deploy the virtual agent within its existing VMware environment. By leveraging Backup Exec 12.5, Golden Temple was able to reduce its time to complete a full backup of its virtual environment by 50 percent.
