AT&T has teamed with McAfee to offer a new secure email gateway service that both checks inbound messages before they hit the enterprise as well as filters outbound messages for data leakage.

The new AT&T Secure E-mail Gateway Service employs McAfee's global threat intelligence technology along with AT&T's network gateway nodes. AT&T already offers virtualized firewall, intrusion detection and prevention, URL filtering, content filtering, and distributed denial-of-service security services.

AT&T says customers of the new email security service can manage and administer it via AT&T's BusinessDirect portal. Secure E-mail Gateway Service replaces AT&T's existing email gateway offering, and customers of that service will be migrated to the new offering, according to the company.

"With this new AT&T Secure E-mail Gateway Service, our customers can ensure the integrity of a message before it even enters their network. In addition, the solution helps to meet compliance regulations as unwanted content is blocked and sensitive content can be encrypted with this service," said Bill O'Hern, assistant vice president of technology security for AT&T Business Solutions, in a statement.

The new AT&T service helps filter out spam, malicious attachments, embedded malicious URLs, and email server connections between client machines and botnet servers. It also comes with reporting capabilities and online email archiving.
