PRESS RELEASE

PITTSBURGH - BitArmor(tm), the leader in data control software that helps corporate executives protect and manage sensitive data throughout their organizations, today announced the latest release of BitArmor DataControl, an information-centric security solution that directly protects the data rather than the devices or network used to access it. The new version facilitates safe file collaboration and the secure transport and access of data files stored on USB drives, via email attachment, or downloaded from FTP sites. Files can now be security transported and accessed on non-work or unprotected systems without the need to install a DataControl control agent.

"BitArmor approaches the data protection problem in a unique way, i.e. by embedding protection policies with the data itself, and not by protecting just the devices where data resides," said John Oltsik, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "I strongly believe this information-centric approach is the future of data protection."

The new version of BitArmor DataControl, a security solution covered in the September 2008 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection from Gartner, (available to Gartner clients from www.gartner.com) provides the easiest USB protection available in the market today - a simple drag and drop to USB devices will protect the data. An optional password can be assigned and the Smart Tag protected data emailed to a business partner to enable secure, two-way collaboration. A new lightweight application, BitArmor Control Sentry, permits users to supply the right password to access the protected document.

"Today's data files are as mobile as the workers that use them," said Patrick McGregor Ph.D., CEO of BitArmor. "Files are often ported from work to home on USB drives or emailed to business partners as email attachments. Just as enterprises need to protect data and files on laptops and desktops, they must also ensure that this data being transported to un-protected systems is still safe and secure. The latest release of DataControl solves the security challenges of mobile data - so corporate data remains secure regardless of where it is accessed."

First released in September 2007, DataControl is BitArmor's flagship product which focuses on protecting the data - not devices - with its Smart Tag technology. Smart Tags enforce policies for persistent file encryption everywhere throughout the enterprise so data is always under control. Smart Tags are bundles of instructions for data access and usage, directly attached to each file for its entire lifespan. So, the policies they contain stay consistently enforced everywhere that file goes - from endpoint to endpoint. Smart Tag protection remains with the data as it is transferred to USB drives or while it is in transit as an email attachment. And, finally, the protection remains with the data as it resides on storage servers, files shares and backup tapes.

DataControl version 3.2, including the new Control Sentry portable application, is available now. For more information, please visit www.bitarmor.com or call 412.682.2200.

About BitArmor
BitArmor offers DataControl, powerful new software that provides a faster, easier, more cost-effective way to protect and manage sensitive data throughout any organization. Unlike traditional solutions that only deal with information at specific points in the system, BitArmor DataControl software attaches a Smart Tag(tm) directly to the data itself - a tag that travels with the data and allows you to secure, track, and control it regardless of where it is stored or sent. BitArmor helps companies protect valuable data assets, achieve regulatory compliance, and manage data throughout its functional lifecycle.
