REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- DigitalPersona, Inc., a leader in fingerprint identity and authentication solutions, today announced that NCR Corporation is now offering DigitalPersona's U.are.U 4500HD "heavy duty" fingerprint sensor as an option on NCR's next-generation integrated point-of-sale (POS) workstation, the NCR RealPOS 70XRT.

The fingerprint sensor, which is embedded in the top of the NCR RealPOS 70XRTtouchscreen, enables POS applications to quickly and easily identify users so that they can be linked to the specific transactions they perform. Biometrics is increasingly being used in POS environments to boost accountability, reduce provisioning hassles and help get customers through checkout processes quickly.

NCR is using the embedded version of DigitalPersona's U.are.U 4500HD fingerprint sensor. This heavy-duty, ergonomically designed fingerprint sensor offers a powerful combination of size, accuracy and performance for handling hard-to-read fingerprints, and is resistant to physical and chemical abuse in commercial environments. In addition, its unobtrusive, blue illumination provides a professional appearance for restaurants and retail stores.

The NCR RealPOS 70XRT is available through NCR's global sales organization as well as from NCR Authorized Resellers. POS applications that support biometrics on the NCR RealPOS 70XRT are available from NCR or a variety of independent software vendors.
