Identity Control Ranks High

Identity control issues top Burton Group's 2007 IT identity management trends

SALT LAKE CITY -- Burton Group, an IT research firm focused on technical analysis of enterprise infrastructure technologies, today released a research report that pinpoints the top trends in the IT identity management market affecting enterprises in 2007 and beyond. Topping this year's list is control of user access rights within the organization.

According to Mike Neuenschwander, research director for Burton Group's Identity and Privacy Strategies service, this issue is familiar to enterprise organizations, but regulatory drivers - Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements in particular - have brought identity control optimization technologies, such as entitlement management, to the forefront.

"Defining and maintaining access rights continues to be a big pain point for our enterprise clients," says Neuenschwander. "Some products approach entitlement management from the audit perspective and some focus on defining and managing business and IT roles; it can be tricky and extremely expensive."
