London, U.K. and Chicago, IL " July 13, 2009 " Egress Software Technologies, an innovator in secure data exchange, announced today that it has been granted patent GB2450197 by the UK Patent Office. The new patent, "Media Device Access Control Mechanism," defines a method for ensuring shared information is only accessible by intended recipients. The patent is also pending in the United States.

Egress Switch allows an information owner to package their sensitive information using strong AES 256-bit encryption and send it to a recipient in a variety of ways such as attached to an email, burned on a CD/DVD, copied to a USB stick or transferred through the web or FTP. The owner can then set or change security policies independent of the package through a service in the cloud. Security policies can include authorizing recipients and limiting recipient access. These changes can be made in real time, even after the information is sent or shared. This allows a user to "pull information back" if it needs to be recalled.

Egress Switch also offers a complete view of when the information recipient has opened or used the shared information, as well as unauthorized access attempts, providing an audit trail. The owner can then easily track activity of their shared information through logs arranged by package or recipient.
