This week Dark Reading launches a new feature: the Risk Management Tech Center, a subsite of Dark Reading devoted to bringing you more detailed news, insight, and in-depth reporting on the use of risk management strategies and practices to support IT enterprise security.

The launch follows on the heels of our launch last week of the Identity and Access Management Tech Center, another subsite that is designed to deliver in-depth coverage of issues related to user administration and access control.

These new features are the thirteenth and fourteenth of our Dark Reading Tech Centers, which are designed to provide you with a more focused view of specific issues, threats, and technologies in the world of IT security. The Tech Centers offer in-depth reports and studies, breaking news, and links to additional articles and information not found on the main Dark Reading site. Just as a traditional newspaper offers in-depth sections or supplements on sports, entertainment, or politics, the Dark Reading Tech Centers provide an additional range of news and information for readers who have an interest in specific aspects of IT security.

While Dark Reading has always covered issues related to enterprise security administration, we are excited to have these new, focused sub-sites in which to explore the day-to-day issues that security administrators must wrestle. While much of Dark Reading’s news coverage focuses on breaches and new threats, we know that our readers spend much of their time dealing with everyday issues such as prioritizing security tasks and provisioning users. These aspects of security often get less attention than the incident response and defense, but doing them right can make the enterprise security effort both easier and more effective.

In the area of risk management, our additional coverage will help explore the effort to build security defenses and practices that are commensurate with the growing, shifting threats that enterprises face each day. We’ll look at ways to develop a customized defense that focuses on the data you most need to protect as well as the specific attacks that might threaten it. We’ll offer additional coverage on how to assess risk, and even more importantly, how to apply that assessment when prioritizing and deploying your enterprise defenses.

In the area of identity and access management, the new Tech Center will offer a closer look at the complex and time-consuming process of managing user identities and access privileges, particularly in large enterprises where hundreds of users might be involved. We’ll look at issues related to user provisioning, role-based access control, federation of identities, and the mapping of directory services to user identity and access. The goal of the Identity and Access Management Tech Center is to help you handle these administrative tasks more efficiently to lower costs and improve enterprise security.

Of course, the creation of these new Tech Centers doesn't mean that our coverage of security administration on the main Dark Reading site will decrease. You'll continue to see news and analysis of new strategies for measuring risk and managing user identity on our home page and in our opinion section. But when you click on those stories or blogs, you'll be brought to the Tech Centers, so that you can see the full range and depth of analysis that we offer on the topic, and gain additional context to support what you're reading.

We think these new Tech Centers will help provide more depth and context around your challenges in security administration. But in the end, this is your site.
