CyberPatrol Announces Free 'Threat Detector' To Check PCs For Risky Web Surfing Habits

Company ramps up fight against cyberbullying with enhanced ChatGard feature

Consumer Electronics Show--Las Vegas, NV - January 8, 2009 - CyberPatrol today announced Threat Detector, a new, free online assessment tool that will help parents review their children's online surfing habits. The Company also announced enhancements to its IM ChatGard product feature that helps parents guard against cyberbullying.

"CyberPatrol's aim is to provide parents with a way to quickly scan their family or children's PCs for visits and bookmarks to unsuitable or unsafe web sites," said Tori Case, Vice President of Product Management at CyberPatrol. "Certain sites may be considered inappropriate because of their content while others can pose a threat because of viruses, spyware and phishing. Threat Detector gives parents a very quick and easy way to assess the state of their family's computers."

While most parents believe their kids are behaving appropriately online and are safe, 71% of teens admit they do not tell their parents what they do online. Threat Detector can help parents find out where their kids have been online.

Threat Detector will be available in February for download from www.cyberpatrol.com. CyberPatrol is demonstrating Threat Detector from its show pod (72406H) at the [email protected] show area at CES in Las Vegas.

CyberPatrol's IM ChatGard feature within its Parental Controls 7.7 product has been enhanced to increase the protection it offers against cyberbullying. A comprehensive list of key cyberbullying terms have been added to existing inappropriate terms. ChatGard blocks objectionable words in instant messaging (IM), whether they are sent or received. ChatGard can also be set to block the user's home address, phone number, and other information that would be inappropriate for children to share via IM.

At CES, CyberPatrol is giving away copies of a new online safety mini book, "Talking to Kids about Internet Safety for Dummies." The publication is sponsored by CyberPatrol and written by internationally recognized Internet safety expert and author, Linda Criddle. "Talking to Kids about Internet Safety for Dummies" and trial copies of parental controls software CyberPatrol 7.7, are available from the CyberPatrol show pod 72406H in the [email protected] area at CES.

Linda Criddle from LookBothWays is moderating a panel at [email protected] - "Internet Safety Without the Scare Tactics" in the Venetian Meeting Hall, Lando 4203 at 2:00 PM on January 9, 2009. CyberPatrols' Tori Case is a speaker on the panel.
