Ottawa, ON and Bristol, UK - February 10, 2009 - Responding to the growing demand from businesses to have a more integrated, streamlined auditing process which lessens the budgetary and administrative burden, CRYPTOCard, a leading developer of two-factor authentication (2FA) technology, today launches its new authentication solution: BlackShield ID. International financial services provider, National Rural Utilities, is among the first to deploy this new breakthrough solution.

"Unfortunately, many businesses are still only paying lip service to the need to improve password security. Regulatory compliance and security demands are increasing, as evidenced by the UK Government's tightening up of identity management within its Code of Connection guidelines," explained Neil Hollister, CEO of CRYPTOCard.

"However, the difficulty and cost of implementation and high level of management overhead is still a major turn-off for most businesses that want a solution. Responding to this need, BlackShield ID delivers a wide array of features which minimize the helpdesk and administration burden and provide a range of reporting options to help support compliance and audit requirements," Hollister concluded.

BlackShield ID takes an innovative approach to authentication by leveraging web services to reduce the management and processing overhead in order to deliver a solution that rapidly integrates within a network and any associated Identity Management workflow architecture. The architecture also allows it to deliver a management and reporting suite that encompasses a unique set of real-time reports and alerts that closely monitor log-in activities, and can quickly raise alarms if the system suspects that hackers may be present.

Using a simple browser based interface BlackShield ID provides access to on-screen reports to aid help desk resources and reduces support calls by delivering an easy to use customizable user self service portal. This more automated reporting functionality delivers a wider total cost of ownership benefit, with a significant reduction in the man hours needed to fully meet regulatory compliance.

Commenting on the launch Ian Kilpatrick, Chairman of IT distributor, Wick Hill Group plc, said; "Security is one of the few technology sectors still experiencing strong market growth. And within the security sector PCI requirements for organizations accepting credit cards, the awareness of ID theft and increasing deployment of tokens by banks, have led to a greater understanding and demand for two-factor authentication."

Available immediately, BlackShield ID is being released with support for CRYPTOCard's award winning SMS token which features the "OTP Now" capability to ensure a user always has a unique one-tine-password on their mobile phone. The addition of this token and inclusion of the recently announced CD-1 token makes BlackShield ID the most flexible authentication server on the market.
