RALEIGH, N.C. -- CipherOptics, the leading innovator of Compliance Grade™ data protection solutions, today announces the release and general availability of Layer 2 support for CipherEngine™, providing the industry’s first complete security solution for Layer 2 networks. This unique, transparent solution broadens the umbrella of data protection beyond Layer 3 and allows users to implement Secure Information Sharing across the entire network without adding Layer 3 overhead or altering network design or architecture.

Prior to this release, users of Layer 2 networks including Metro-Ethernet, VPLS, Fiber and other Transparent LAN Services, were unable to secure information traffic on a broad scale with a native Layer 2 solution, limiting their capacity for security and compliance with government and industry regulations such as SOX, GLBA, CA 1386 and PCI, which require companies to protect consumer information.

“CipherOptics has achieved what no other company has been able to do; provide a complete and comprehensive Layer 2 data protection solution that is highly scaleable, has advanced features and is easy to use and manage, meeting AT&T’s requirement for a robust Layer 2 data security solution,” says Ron Howell, AT&T Senior Network Architect. “Prior to this breakthrough, securing data as it moved across our customers' Layer 2 networks was limited to point-to-point solutions which did not easily scale, or required the additional cost and complexity of Layer 3 overhead. With CipherEngine's new Layer 2 functionality, CipherOptics has filled a much requested security capability for AT&T and our customers’ wired and wireless network needs. Strong security on AT&T Networks is now much more effective and easy to use.”
