I was speaking with Bill Schlough, VP and CIO of the San Francisco Giants, last week for an article about a security survey commissioned by
MailFrontier. I asked him whether the Giants had ever been targeted by hackers. He told me about some phishing attempts disguised as help-desk messages, but he doubts those attacks were aimed specifically at the Giants.
"I don't think it's maliciously intended from some Dodger fan out there," he said with a laugh.
However, he did note that some people have tried to hack his organization's servers to get desirable tickets. "We have seen such things happen when we have ticket sales," he said. "When we have high demand for our tickets, we'll have folks specifically targeting our servers trying to figure out ways to get tickets before the general public."
