MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - February 17, 2009 - Quova, Inc., the leading provider of Internet geolocation data services, announced today that Absolute Software Corporation, the leading provider of computer theft recovery, data protection and IT asset management solutions has integrated Quova geolocation technology into its popular Computrace(r) line of business laptop security services. Quova's Wi-Fi geolocation technology is also used to assist with the recovery of home computers protected by Absolute's LoJack(r) for Laptops consumer service. Integration of Quova's Wi-Fi triangulation data supplements Absolute's existing GPS and IP-based tracking capabilities.

As more businesses and consumers rely on mobile computers, the risk of losing them or having them stolen becomes important issues. According to a report published by the FBI, 109,000 laptops were confirmed stolen in 2008.

Of those stolen, only 18 percent were returned to their owner. Businesses and consumers are rapidly adopting technology as assurance against device and data loss as replacement devices may cost over a thousand dollars.

The Quova Wi-Fi geolocation tracking technology included in certain Computrace products allows Absolute's enterprise customers to view the location and location history of IT assets via Absolute's secure customer portal. This portal enables Absolute's customers to find lost assets and helps them discover thefts earlier. And, in the case of theft, Quova Wi-Fi geolocation tracking technology can help the Absolute Theft Recovery Team locate and recover Computrace and LoJack for Laptops-protected computers.

Prior to implementing WI-Fi geolocation data to provide location information for the device, Absolute employed GPS and IP tracking technology in its Computrace solutions. With the increased use of Wi-Fi connectivity, Absolute wanted to add an additional tracking capability for its users.

Wi-Fi functionality is built into the firmware of virtually every mobile computer, creating a solution that is easily accessible to any user concerned about tracking IT assets or recovering stolen computers. Now, when a user's mobile computer is stolen, Absolute can use Wi-Fi triangulation to locate it. Wi-Fi signals can be triangulated through cell phone towers and Wi-Fi hot spots to locate a computer down to a city block level, providing critical information to the location of the asset. Using several tracking methodologies in concert, Absolute works with authorities to locate stolen computers, resulting in thousands of recoveries each year.
