SANS is out with its 2008 top threats report
, and the outlook isn't good. While many of the threats are familiar, they're getting more sophisticated, supple, smart.Topping the SANS Institute
list of the "Top Ten Cyber Security Menaces"
is an increase in browser-based attacks, particularly attacks coming in through browser add-ons. Keep an especially sharp eye on this one -- if your business is like a lot I know, your employees may have customized their browsers six ways from Sunday, and not just with Flash and QuickTime, although those were singled out by SANS.
Employees adding add-ons without letting you, your IT or tech team or anybody else know is one of the things the crooks are counting on.
Other challenges noted by SANS include increases in botnets, a dramatic rise in cyber espionage, insider threats, attacks targeting iPhones and other mobile devices, super-spyware, and more.
Scary stuff, and getting scarier by the day. Again, the SANS Top Ten Threats for 2008 is here. Read it -- and start tightening up your defenses.
