NEW YORK -- Light Reading's Byte and Switch (www.byteandswitch.com), the premier online storage networking publication, today announces its first annual Big Bytes Awards competition to recognize outstanding new products, services, and players in the storage networking industry.

The Big Bytes Awards, which are open to all and entirely free to enter, will focus on generally available products and services announced after September 2005. In addition, there will be awards for outstanding user organizations of varying sizes and for the best public and private storage suppliers.

Big Bytes will be awarded in the following categories:

• Products & Services – Recognizing outstanding innovations in storage networking technology. Separate awards will be given for: Backup & Archiving; NAS; SAN; Services; Storage Network Security; Storage Management Software; and Storage Network Test Equipment.

• User Excellence – Recognizing end-user organizations nominated by their suppliers for exceptional innovation, ROI, and creativity in storage networking. Separate awards will be given for: Small to Medium-Sized Businesses; Small to Medium-Sized Enterprises; and Large Enterprises.

• Companies – Recognizing distinguished storage networking suppliers. Separate awards will be given for Private Companies and Public Companies.

Nominees in all categories will be judged by a panel composed of the Byte and Switch editors and an independent advisory board that Byte and Switch will invite from across the industry.

The award winners will be announced on September 12 in a formal presentation at StoragePlus 2006 – Byte and Switch's two-day enterprise storage conference and exhibition, to be held in Burlingame, Calif., September 12 and 13. Members of our independent advisory board will be participating in the StoragePlus 2006 conference.
