BASKING RIDGE, N.J. " Enterprises will be able to pinpoint information technology performance and security issues, identify cost savings and better plan for future growth by using a new consulting service from Verizon Business.

Verizon Enterprise IT Analysis Service gives IT administrators a high-level overview of each layer of the IT "stack," the computing structure that spans the network, data, applications and users. The service is aimed at answering key questions that are typically overlooked such as the number, types and locations of devices attached to the network; the applications running over the network; the quantity and types of data moving across the network; and how applications such as VoIP are implemented.

The new service is ideal for organizations that lack dedicated staffing to document network resources or need to focus IT resources on strategic projects, as well as those centralizing IT management or have recently completed a merger, acquisition or divestiture.

"Most businesses today rely on technology to manage their business, and many IT departments still struggle with knowing the true scope and complexity of their IT environment," said Bart Vansevenant, director " enterprise solutions development, Verizon Business. "Verizon Enterprise Analysis Service provides a comprehensive baseline assessment of an organization's IT infrastructure and can serve as a valuable tool to help enterprises rein in costs, make the most of IT capital investments and develop plans to improve network and application performance, and secure sensitive data."

The 2009 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report highlights the connection between data breaches and unknown systems, data, connections or privileges on corporate networks. During 2008, roughly half of the data breaches investigated by Verizon Business revealed at least one type of "unknown," underscoring the importance to knowing what is connected to the corporate infrastructure.

How Verizon Enterprise IT Analysis Service Works

Verizon Business installs a temporary appliance within the client's network to measure utilization, map data flows, identify applications, and pinpoint attached devices. This provides the data for a comprehensive report on what is currently running over a business' network, as well as recommendations for improvement and methods to potentially reduce costs.

Verizon Enterprise IT Analysis Service is available globally on a per location basis and includes hardware installation, discovery, analysis, and development of recommendations. A typical engagement lasts four weeks.

Verizon Business offers a comprehensive suite of professional consulting services designed to help enterprises make informed strategic IT investment decisions. For more information, visit the Verizon Business IT consulting services Web site.
