Basics are required before layering automation
Avi, you are correct.  These basics are required for other more advanced tools can be effective.  It makes no sense to have advanced endpoint malware protection and response in place if you can't identify who is using the asset.  It is far better to restrict admin access to the databases using roles instead of layering database monitoring tools on top of a database that is open and already compromised before the fancy daily activity report can be delivered for analysis.  The problem is that the silver bullet is easier to sell to the board, while more hands for asset inventory and access control seems a hard sell for managers.  This is a problem at the executive level, not solved by the analyst.  We as an industry need to insist on proper staffing and pay, by educating our executives, rather than trying to solve vulnerabilities with deployments doomed to mediocracy at best.

Improving Enterprise Cybersecurity With XDR
Enterprises are looking at eXtended Detection and Response technologies to improve their abilities to detect, and respond to, threats. While endpoint detection and response is not new to enterprise security, organizations have to improve network visibility, expand data collection and expand threat hunting capabilites if they want their XDR deployments to succeed. This issue of Tech Insights also includes: a market overview for XDR from Omdia, questions to ask before deploying XDR, and an XDR primer.
