Re: Isolation is key
I've yet to see an argument that successfully argues against this.  Let's hope this becomes the de-facto design moving forward.  Isolation needs to be at many levels, too.  Not just from the main systems, but also from a connection standpoint.  If systems must connect in any way outside the plane, then ecrypt and connect on a separate stream than non-critical systems.  Does this potentially mean a dedicate communication service for the airline industry?  Why not?  Completely silo passenger convenience away from passenger safety.

Isolation is key

As article mentioned, another approach is to isolate IFEs from plan's other systems, they do not be connected at all.

Re: Luxury vs Lives
"I'm clearly not going to win that argument in a commercially bound industry"

That makes sense, even commercial airlines would not go that far taking away the passengers'phones

"hackable systems"

I think this is the operative word, we need to find out what we can do so they are not hackable.

"blunt and basic in my approach"

That makes sense, however for that to work it needs to be practical too.

"the most intelligent/threat aware people looking at the security designs to minimize the risks"

I agree. There must be a way to secure both plans' electronic system and devices we use so they never interfere.

"If we can't keep devices out of people's hands,"

I hear you but I would say it is not practical. There must be a better way.

Re: plaque psoriasis
I agree, informative well thought article. And a critical issue especially with current IoT devices.

CVE-2021-41615
PUBLISHED: 2022-08-08
websda.c in GoAhead WebServer 2.1.8 has insufficient nonce entropy because the nonce calculation relies on the hardcoded onceuponatimeinparadise value, which does not follow the secret-data guideline for HTTP Digest Access Authentication in RFC 7616 section 3.3 (or RFC 2617 section 3.2.1).
