FCC and regulations
Good article, enjoyed reading it. Just because FCC does not impose any regulations that should not mean that IoT devices should be unsecure. IoT device providers have provide a security level that is acceptable by the public, they will go bankrupt after the first incident otherwise. Remember most IoT devices ate personal, people have certain level expectation with our without regulations.

More meta data
Any child will be shaped by the culture, people, and rule sets they grow up with. Therefore it is also possible to use products and services to predict the existence, quality or execution of policies and processes, including their maturity level of the parties involved. So, more meta data to be used as an advantage for the threat actors.

Re: Interesting post
Definitely. There are a few organizations working on this, including UL's new security program. Except, these organizations all seem to be working separately. There needs to be a universal regulated standard that everyone works toward.

Re: Interesting post
Perhaps a security certification lab is the right direction.   With some demonstrated successes in certification labeled products, customers have incentive to seek out the label.

Without a doubt many people will buy an unsafe offering.  The goal should include defending against a neighborhood full of unsafe models.

Re: Encryption
Absolutely! Encryption is an imperative component in modern technology, whether it's IoT, a website front-end, or a cloud service. We can't forget about peer authentication, endpoint attestation, and the other attributes of a secure embedded platform, too. Hopefully, more readers will see the issue as you have and will demand secure technology even in their childrens' toys. Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: Interesting post
Thanks for your support! I think it's very important to socialize the idea that technology we build will define our societal stability for years and even decades to come. We can't take our future lightly!

Encryption
This is precisely why encryption is so important. There is no doubt that at times we will have our information cracked by nefarious individuals, but without encryption that data is all available to them to read at their leisure.

At least it if it's obfuscated a little we can have some semblance of protection.

The ever more connected toys our children play with too are a real concern. I wouldn't allow mine to go near a cloud enabled toy if its data wasn't encrypted.

thank you
It plays a significant role in youngster's life. Almost all education teaching faculties are aware of major social media sites. They widely use such services personally for academic help and for clarifications

The 10 Most Impactful Types of Vulnerabilities for Enterprises Today
Managing system vulnerabilities is one of the old est - and most frustrating - security challenges that enterprise defenders face. Every software application and hardware device ships with intrinsic flaws - flaws that, if critical enough, attackers can exploit from anywhere in the world. It's crucial that defenders take stock of what areas of the tech stack have the most emerging, and critical, vulnerabilities they must manage. It's not just zero day vulnerabilities. Consider that CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog lists vulnerabilitlies in widely used applications that are "actively exploited," and most of them are flaws that were discovered several years ago and have been fixed. There are also emerging vulnerabilities in 5G networks, cloud infrastructure, Edge applications, and firmwares to consider.
