The US Social Security Administration (SSA) will soon mandate stronger authentication for its website. Users will start to see changes to SSA.gov on June 10, 2017.
An updated login process will require a second method to verify users' identities. Users will be required to enter a one-time security code, which can be sent via text message or email, in addition to their username and password when they access the website.
"Using two ways to identify you when you log on will help better protect your account from unauthorized use and potential identity fraud," SSA explains on its website. To avoid the spam filter, users who prefer email are advised to add [email protected] to their contact list.
