More Ransomware Being Spread Via Malvertising

Magnitude exploit kit has popped up in new malvertising campaign and dropping CryptoWall.

Researchers at Malwarebytes have witnessed a spike in malvertising attacks that are pushing the Magnitude exploit kit and dropping CryptoWall ransomware on compromised machines.

Magnitude is exploiting a recently patched Adobe vulnerability, CVE-2015-7645, continuing a trend. Researchers from Invincea in August reported that malvertising campaigns -- spreading ransomware, banking Trojans, and bot code -- peaked in June, when they compromised a string of high-profile Adobe Flash zero-days.

Re: Scope?
I apologize if my first post was unclear. I understand the technique behind malvertising. I was more concerned with in what sector this is most prevalent (financial, retail, government, etc) or is it consistent across the board?

Re: Scope?
The scope of malvertising all depends on Users' web activity within a corporation, how content filtering and NIPS are affectively applied. As I have stated before in previous post in regards to ransomeware, files are targeted and encrypted solely based on known file extenstions. It is not yet sophisticated enough to anaylize actual MIME type headers to these files. Renaming files to obscure extensions and reassociating these files to their proper application would not be affected by such ransomware such as CryptoWall.
