The Edge is a special features section of Dark Reading that adds depth to the content provided by the main news site. Like a Sunday magazine in a daily newspaper, The Edge offers a variety of value-add content. That includes in-depth and how-to feature articles on emerging threats and defense practices, insights on emerging security trends, introductory "primers" that explain complex concepts, and an "Ask the Experts" feature to help security pros learn new concepts. Sponsors provide expert content and commentary to supplement Dark Reading's editorial coverage.

In addition, The Edge provides entertaining and interesting content to help show the human side of the security industry. This content includes personality profiles of security pros and other human interest stories, as well as cartoons and links to entertaining security-related videos.

The Edge was the brainchild of former editor-in-chief Tim Wilson. The initial launch of this section was through a partnership with Akamai.
