With pandemic-restrictions easing and businesses reopening their offices, many security professionals are concerned about a possible surge in cyberattacks. Enterprise defenders expect attackers will continue to target remote access technologies and vulnerabilities in cloud environments, and they worry their defenses are inadequate to withstand the threat. In response to Dark Reading and Omdia’s recently published "Enterprise Security in a Post Pandemic World" report, 51% of enterprise security professionals said they expect cyberattacks to increase "slightly" or "significantly" as the restrictions lift. Only 28% expect attack volumes to remain unchanged. Part of the anxiety appears to be tied to the massive surge in ransomware attacks over the past year and a half as attackers targeted vulnerable remote access infrastructures and enterprise networks.
