Dear Readers,

Today Dark Reading launches a new section, The Edge, which expands the depth and breadth of our cybersecurity news coverage.

The Edge, a new destination on the Dark Reading website, provides in-depth articles on cybersecurity defense practices, introductory "primers" that explain complex security concepts, and profiles of the people who drive cybersecurity innovation, among other areas of coverage.

The Edge is analogous to the Sunday magazine that you might receive in your local newspaper, offering additional depth and perspective to the news and commentary we provide every day about cybersecurity.

Over the past 13 years, Dark Reading has become one of the cybersecurity industry's top destinations for breaking news and analysis of emerging cybersecurity threats, breaches, and newly disclosed vulnerabilities. But as online attacks become more numerous and sophisticated, we felt we needed a place where we could step back from the breaking news and offer deeper articles on cybersecurity defense practices. And as the IT security industry continues to grow, we also recognized a pressing need for materials that help educate both business executives and junior staffers on cybersecurity basics.

The Edge delivers these types of features, as well as case studies and human interest stories that provide real-life examples of cybersecurity successes. In addition, The Edge provides a Threat Monitor feature that offers insights on the latest cyberthreats on the Internet, as well as an "Ask the Experts" feature that enables readers to pose questions to experienced threat analysts and practitioners.

And finally, lest we take ourselves too seriously, The Edge includes a small humor section, Over the Edge, which houses our human interest coverage as well as links to clever and funny security-related videos, a cartoon caption contest, and a Quick Poll feature that enables readers to answer a question related to their careers or important issues of the day.

The Edge is being brought to you, in part, through a partnership with Akamai, which provides expert content and commentary in the new section to supplement the Dark Reading editorial coverage.

We hope you'll note that virtually all of The Edge’s components offer a "Comment" function that allows you to interact with Dark Reading editors, content authors, and other readers. You can offer your own thoughts on our articles, provide your own insight on an Ask the Experts question, seek more information about emerging threats, answer a poll, or suggest a cartoon caption. You can also send a question for our Ask the Experts feature by emailing Sara Peters, senior editor at Dark Reading, at [email protected]. We hope you'll take advantage of these interactive functions to augment the depth of our coverage in The Edge and to get answers to questions you may have about breaches, vulnerabilities, or best practices.

Like the rest of Dark Reading, our new Edge section depends on you, our readers, to be successful. We think it will provide you with some in-depth coverage, some primers on emerging issues and technologies, and some moments of entertainment during your long days of working on cybersecurity problems. But to make it truly work, we’ll need your feedback and your participation. Please give it a close look and let us know how we can make the content better and more useful to you. We hope to continue to make Dark Reading a better, more helpful publication every day.
