Lastline Adds OS X Support and Unlimited 10 Gbps Sensors in 6.0 Release of Its Breach Detection Platform

Lastline Next-Generation Sandboxing, Threat Intelligence and Breach Event Correlation Engineered to Handle 20x Increase in Evasive Malware

December 10, 2014

Redwood City, Calif., August 21, 2014 – Lastline, a global breach detection provider, today announced the 6.0 release of its software-based security platform. Major updates include the addition of OS X support and a 10 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) sensor interface on standard servers. Lastline offers its security service as an annual subscription, so all new features in 6.0 are included in the existing price per user, making scaling breach detection both flexible and predictable for enterprise customers.

Since March 2012, Lastline has analyzed millions of files and measured hockey-stick growth in the volume of evasive malware -- with the rise in evasive behaviors detected increasing by more than 2,000% since December 2013. Today’s updates enhance the capabilities of the Lastline Breach Detection Platform to even more quickly and accurately detect, block and respond to active breaches in enterprise networks -- including zero-day threats from evasive malware likeWiper.

“Traditional malware protection proves increasingly unsuccessful to protect against some of the latest threats. Network-based malware protection systems are important components of advanced threat detection,” said Mario de Boer, research director at Gartner. “Forward-leaning IT security organizations should evaluate their needs for customized, interactive malware analysis and incident response, hire enough staff to do something with the information, and use it for community-based defense.” 1

Lastline’s flexible, open, software-based platform provides detection of advanced and evasive threats across the entire enterprise: operating systems (OSes), physical and virtual hosts, services, users, network infrastructure as well as Web, email, content and mobile applications. With the 6.0 release, Lastline now includes breach detection on OS X in addition to existing protection for Windows and Android operating systems at no additional cost. This flexible, predictable, scalable and all-inclusive per user subscription pricing model is in sharp contrast to traditional security appliance vendors who put hefty price tags on proprietary hardware that doesn’t scale and upsell supplemental subscription services.

“Fifteen years after the public beta of Mac OS X, enterprises are increasingly relying on OS X devices for business computing and collaboration,” said Dr. Christopher Kruegel, co-founder and chief scientist at Lastline. “At the same time, OS X has recently proven vulnerable to targeted attacks, including man-in-the-middle attacks on unsecured or undersecured networks. Lastline is the first breach detection platform to include OS X support across the board.”

The software-based Lastline Breach Detection Platform is comprised of network sensors, a next-generation sandbox engine, an incident response manager and a real-time threat intelligence knowledge base. The ability to configure an unlimited number of sensors for 10Gbps networks is now included in Lastline 6.0, in addition to the previously available 4 x 1Gbps sensor configuration. Lastline network sensors can monitor multiple protocols including web, email and file protocols.

“As breach attempts and network traffic both rapidly rise at enterprises around the world, sensor throughput becomes an increasingly critical factor in the effectiveness of breach detection and response,” continued Dr. Kruegel. “We’re automatically offering unlimited upgrades to 10 Gbps sensor configurations in Lastline 6.0 to all customers at no additional cost.”

Pricing for Lastline 6.0 starts at $40 per user per year with volume pricing available and includes the ability to deploy an unlimited number of network locations and inspect any number of protocols. To learn more about Lastline, please visit:www.lastline.com.
