Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officials plan to launch on Tuesday an educational series to guard against phishing attacks, according to an announcement by the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT).

The "Don't Take the Bait" series is targeting tax preparers and their clients, in an effort to reduce the chances that they will later fall prey to a phishing scam that will pilfer their sensitive information.

Under the series, tax professionals and their clients will learn about phishing scams. These two groups are often targeted by cybercriminals, who want to steal sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers.

The "Don't Take the Bait" series is part of US-CERT's "Protect Your Clients, Protect Yourself" campaign.
