Cybersecurity hiring managers are increasingly finding that one of the most effective ways to broaden out their pool of quality candidates is to look farther afield than standard hacker pedigrees or cybersecurity college credits. Doing so not only helps organizations tap into a bigger field of smart people, it also provides them a path to diversify the strengths of the cybersecurity team beyond sheer technical acumen.

Dark Reading recently caught up with a handful of cybersecurity professionals with unconventional backgrounds to talk about their past job experiences and nontech degrees. Here's how they think their nontraditional training helps them in their daily cybersecurity work.
