Bocada Announces Physical And Virtual Data Protection Management In Single Solution

Bocada vpConnect correlates data protection activities across environments

KIRKLAND, Wash., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Bocada Inc., the world's leading provider of data protection management software and the creator of the Data Protection Service Management (DPSM) model, today announced Bocada vpConnect, the industry's first fully-integrated data protection service management solution that bridges the gap between physical and virtual environments.

In a recent survey conducted by the Enterprise Strategy Group, results showed sixty two percent of organizations implement separate applications to protect physical and virtual environments. These are often managed by disparate groups, leading to a lack of coordination across data protection operations, increased cost of administration, inability to quickly identify recovery points, difficulty in responding to compliance audits. Bocada vpConnect addresses these issues by correlating data protection activities across environments, providing immediate visibility and analysis in a single console.

Bocada has integrated its agentless, award-winning Bocada Prism solution bocada.com/products/prism, which provides in-depth backup and recovery health and capacity reporting, policy analysis and SLA management for physical environments, with the recently released Bocada Vision solution bocada.com/products/vision for virtual environments. Vision correlates information from VMWare vCenter with backup application activity to provide a detailed view into VM data protection results, revealing if virtual machines are adequately protected, capacity is efficiently utilized and backups are not interfering with VM workloads.

"Because I protect both physical and virtual servers, using Bocada's integrated vpConnect solution cuts down the amount of time I have to devote to administering and troubleshooting my environment. The way that the reporting, SLAs and alerting work together just make sense," stated Chris Massey, Director of Engineering Technology at Data Recovery Services LLC. "Not only was it easy to install and deploy the software but because its agentless, I was up and running in a matter of minutes and could easily see everything I need to know about my Backup Exec and Veeam backup and replication jobs."

Customers can easily upgrade from either Vision or Prism to the fully integrated vpConnect solution with a simple license key change. The solution combines navigation and dashboards and correlates virtual and physical backup results in multiple reports, reducing efforts required to analyze operations across the enterprise. Bocada has also introduced Executive Rollup reports which provide high-level overviews of data protection results to be presented to customers and management.

"We are extremely excited about providing customers with the ability to simplify data protection operations across the entire organization," said Nancy Hurley, CEO, Bocada. "Our singular focus on providing in-depth data protection service management helped us immediately identify and address the gap between virtual and physical data protection management."
