Defendants accused of using stolen phone details to make international calls charged to victims’ accounts.
Three Florida men were charged by a US District Court with identity theft and conspiracy to commit cell phone scam, causing huge financial loss to their victims. The alleged fraudsters and their accomplices reportedly compromised the victims’ personal cell phone accounts to create their own and then used them to make thousands of fraudulent international calls
The defendants were accused of opening new cell phone accounts in the names of unsuspecting victims across the US by using their personal information. They then made multiple calls to countries with high calling rates like Cuba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. The three also allegedly reprogrammed cell phones and used them to their financial advantage by running illegal call-termination schemes leading to huge losses for the victims.
