Ragnar Locker Threatens to Leak Data if Victims Contact Authorities

The ransomware group says it will leak victims' stolen data if they seek help from law enforcement or data encryption experts.

In a new twist on dirty tactics from ransomware gangs, media reports claim the Ragnar Locker ransomware group is threatening to leak victims' stolen data if they contact law enforcement authorities.

BleepingComputer reports it has seen an announcement published on Ragnar Locker's Dark Web leak site that claims it will publish full data of victims who look to the FBI or other agencies for help after an attack. The criminals also warn they will leak data if victims seek assistance from recovery experts for decryption or for assistance with negotiation.

The reporting reveals a note found on the site that says: "So from this moment we warn all our clients, if you will hire any recovery company for negotiations or if you will send requests to the police/FBI/investigators, we will consider this as a hostile intent and we will initiate the publication of whole compromised data immediately.”

Ragnar Locker threatens to publish the stolen data on their .onion site.
