LOS GATOS, Calif. -- Procera Networks, Inc. (PRNW.OB), a pioneering developer of carrier-grade network traffic and service management infrastructure equipment, today announced the release of version 11 of the companys flagship PacketLogic core software, in conjunction with the release of a new 10-gigabit Ethernet version of the PacketLogic hardware. The new product releases provide increased flexibility and options for service providers, higher-education institutions and others in managing and controlling their network traffic and services, including triple-play and quadruple-play deployments.
Version 11 increases performance and capacity with the introduction of a new highly streamlined and efficient PacketLogic Operating System (PLOS), support for asymmetric network traffic, and dynamic triggers, which provide the ability to dynamically and automatically change rule sets or other settings in response to changing network traffic. For example, a trigger could automatically increase a volume threshold for a host system, instantly block a DoS or DDoS attack, or shape down peer-to-peer traffic that exceeds a given threshold then notify the network administrator via e-mail or SMS.
The new PacketLogic 9200 system features two 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and delivers more than 2.5 Gbps of bidirectional throughput in a single, non-ASIC based hardware appliance. With the PL9200, Procera continues its delivery of unique products that meet the expanding needs of large broadband service providers and telcos, whose triple-play and grand-slam offerings require highly optimized bandwidth and control over bandwidth-intensive recreational Internet usage.
As the world grows ever more dependent on the Internet for business and personal use, the ability to accurately identify and control network traffic and deploy differentiated application-based services becomes increasingly important for service providers, said Glen Bojsza, a prominent industry consultant. Proceras Version 11 and the new PL9200 combine to offer service providers a powerful new tool to manage not just traffic and applications, but to intelligently optimize their networks to support new application services such as IPTV and VoIP which demand higher quality-of-service.
