A new White House cyber security unit will solidify the Office of Management and Budget's role in federal government security policy and enforcement. The Obama administration has allocated $20 million for the new "E-gov Cyber" division, which among other things will ensure that federal agencies properly notify victims of data breaches in a timely way.

According to a report by NexGov, the move follows the new 2014 Federal Information Security Modernization Act, which calls out the OMB's role in securing federal government agency networks as well as formally deems the Department of Homeland Security responsible for the operational security of those networks.
