SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE), today announced that McAfeeR IntruShieldR was the only Network Intrusion Prevention Solution (IPS) to receive the new 'Multi-Gigabit IPS' certification by the NSS Group. The certification procedure represents the NSS Group's most stringent test criteria to date, requiring IPS devices to be thoroughly tested in a specialized lab environment that evaluates IPS products in three main areas: performance and reliability, security accuracy, and usability.

This certification award is issued as a result of an extensive and rigorous testing methodology specific to multi-gigabit network IPS devices. McAfee is the first and only security vendor to achieve NSS Approved status under this new methodology and the sole recipient of the enterprise-level certification status. Out of a field that included the world's top IPS vendors, McAfee was the only company to have its products certified under the new methodology. "In addition to representing the most extensive and rigorous certification for multi-gigabit devices, this is a widely recognized and highly coveted award, and is becoming a requirement for many users when short-listing products for purchase," said Bob Walder, president of the NSS Group. "McAfee is the first to achieve NSS Approved status under the new methodology and the first to receive it at the enterprise level, remaining the only company to have products certified under the new methodology. McAfee should be proud of this accomplishment."

According to the NSS report, McAfee IntruShield performed flawlessly in NSS' Multi-Gigabit IPS testing, achieving unequaled results in virtually every major test category, including detection, out-of-the-box blocking, false-positive resistance, latency, and reliability. McAfee IntruShield successfully blocked the NSS' Multi-Gigabit IPS attacks, evasions and vulnerabilities with minimal latency and perfect performance. NSS's report highlighted McAfee IntruShield's user-defined signature editor, default in-line IPS policy, intuitive and easy-to-use management interface, and exclusive virtual IPS capabilities. In addition, NSS praised IntruShield's unrivaled granular policy management and declared McAfee IntruShield the perfect solution for managed services environments.
