LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Arbor Networks, a leading provider of network security and operational performance for global business networks, announced today that Hostopia.com Inc., a provider of private-label wholesale hosting, email and application services, has selected Arbor Peakflow SP to protect their network against a wide range of security threats and Arbor’s recently released Threat Management System for its ability to perform intelligent mitigation of attack traffic and application-layer analysis.

Headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, USA and Toronto, Canada, Hostopia provides wholesale private-label hosting, managed email and application services to telco’s, Internet service providers (ISPs), cable operators, hosting providers and domain registrars. Hostopia’s automated provisioning and support systems enable service providers to increase their profits, offer superior features to their end-users, and reduce the risks and challenges of delivering reliable, high-performance web services including: small-business hosting and applications, business-class email and consumer email.

Arbor Peakflow SP currently protects more than 70% of the world’s ISP networks from security threats such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, botnets and worms, as well as network issues such as traffic and routing instability. The Peakflow SP platform will integrate with Hostopia’s primarily BGP- and ACL-oriented security systems to provide additional depth and sophistication to an already effective network defence. The Peakflow SP platform improves intrusion detection, optimizes traffic data and management, and provides useful analytics to speed repair of occurrences and BGP problems. Additionally, Arbor’s Threat Management System enables Hostopia to perform intelligent mitigation and application-layer analysis through deep packet inspection that filters attack traffic while allowing legitimate traffic on towards its final destination.

“As an industry, ISPs, content management services and web hosting providers are vulnerable to a variety of potentially debilitating security threats. In particular, DDoS attacks involving TCP SYN and UDP floods can be extremely difficult to detect and manage,” said Dirk Bhagat, Hostopia’s chief technology officer. “Arbor Networks Peakflow SP has earned an enviable reputation in the industry as an important part of a comprehensive network defense strategy. Given the evolving threats posed by cyber-criminals, our selection of Arbor Networks is already proving itself as a strategic enabler helping us exceed our service level agreements performance commitments while delivering the carrier-class uptime that our Telco customers demand.”

“The threats facing service provider networks continue to evolve in terms of size and sophistication,” said Paul Morville, Arbor Networks vice president of product management. “The Peakflow SP platform provides Hostopia with comprehensive, network-wide infrastructure security, measurement and traffic-monitoring, as well as deep packet inspection and real-time mitigation. This is a powerful combination that will enable Hostopia to securely deliver their wholesale services to customers.”
