A resident of Talisay City, Philippines, is facing criminal charges in the US for hacking into accounts of high-profile Americans and stealing their names, birth dates, and social security numbers, reports Reuters, quoting US public prosecutors. The case against Peter Locsin, who is currently in custody in the Philippines on unrelated charges, was filed in New Jersey.

Prosecutors said Locsin and several others conspired to steal personal information of at least five people online or via phone calls between February 2012 and January 2015. They then used their bank and credit card details to make wire transfers, order new cards and merchandise and change addresses.

There are unconfirmed reports of former FBI director Robert Mueller being among the victims, says Reuters.
