Black Hat's Ornery Firewall

Security problems render conference's Website inaccessible from host hotel

5:58 PM -- LAS VEGAS -- Black Hat USA -- Even Black Hat's own firewall is suspicious of the security researchers in attendance here.

Here on the first day of Black Hat briefings, the organization's Website has been inaccessible from the host hotel, Caesar's Palace. The problem, according to an IT staffer, is security.

The Black Hat firewall recognizes all traffic emanating from Caesar's Palace as a single IP address, the staffer explains, and that IP address has been quarantined "because the firewall saw some security issues." In a nutshell, the firewall views traffic coming from the conference hotel as a security threat, he says.

One of Black Hat's network engineers is working on the problem.
