ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Offering a major security upgrade to small to medium businesses (SMBs), Communications Inc. today unveiled its new Unified Security Gateway (USG) product line with, the ZyWALL USG300. The first in a series of enhanced security solutions from ZyXEL Communications, the security gateway sets a new performance benchmark for products in the Unified Threat Management (UTM) category with up to 48 Mbps throughput with all UTM features like IDP (intrusion detection and prevention), anti-virus (AV) and content filtering enabled. By way of comparison, competitive products in this category merely reach throughput levels of 25 Mbps. In addition to enhanced performance, ZyXEL’s new security series features hybrid SSL and IPSec VPN, multiple high availability options and seven configurable gigabit ports placing the ZyWALL USG300 as the most feature-rich, SMB-based security product on the market.

Although UTM systems offer the most complete method for managing threats at the network perimeter, they are typically impractical for smaller businesses due to their high cost of ownership and network performance degradation. ZyXEL has eliminated these drawbacks with its new enhanced security series and offers the product line at a small business price point. Ideal for businesses with up to 200 PC users, the USG300’s flexible configuration helps network administrators set up the network and enforce security policies more efficiently and its SSL VPN design allows telecommuters and home workers to access data more easily and safely at home.

“With limited budgets and IT staff, today’s SMBs are looking for all-in-one security solutions that give them the same advantages that enterprises enjoy at an affordable price,” said Munira Brooks, ZyXEL’s senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development. “Our USG300 security solution was designed with the needs of the SMB in mind. It reduces complexity, is easy to maintain without sacrificing performance and includes advanced built-in features that are unique to its price range. No other product on the market offers this level of security and flexibility at this price point.”
