Vast majority of IT specialists in this sector feel ill-prepared for cybersecurity risks, according to report.
Nearly three-quarters of IT specialists working at educational institutions report their organizations do not have a dedicated cybersecurity professional on board, according to Netwrix's 2017 IT Risks in Education survey.
And while 77% of survey respondents feel their institutions are not prepared for IT risks, 37% report their school has encountered a malware incident.
Meanwhile, nearly half of survey respondents, 49%, say human error has led to a security incident at their school and 77% of IT specialists queried believe employees are the biggest security threat to their institution and its system availability, according to the report.
The main challenges they cite in addressing cybersecurity risk management include lack of budget, 74%; insufficient amount of time, 54%; and inadequate participation from senior management, 44%.
