Claims to Fame: Minerva Labs claims to bring a new paradigm to malware detection by "preventing malware execution by using the malware's strengths against it." The premise: many pieces of malware today are delivered in "packers" and use evasion techniques -- only unpacking when they determine that the environment is improperly secured and that it's safe for the malware to come out. As it says on Minerva's website: "Minerva’s Environment Simulation Technology is built upon a simple premise. As the malware does not unpack or run the code in an environment that appears unsuitable, we can simulate such an environment and prevent the malware from executing."
